Hi, Leslie here..."Crazy Girl" began in September, 2003, from the simple idea of creating a space where you could buy the most exquisite yarn fiber available and when you were done, could hang out with a good cup of coffee and knit for a while. The idea has grown steadily and watching it come to fruition has been one of my life's great joys. We currently have two brick and mortar shops (Coralville, and Cedar Falls) and an online shopping cart. I attribute most of our success to the enthusiasm and dedication of a superb staff and the never ending creative ideas of our large customer base. I often get asked why I called it "Crazy Girl" but anyone who has caught the knitting bug understands the name. For a true addict, the fiber and color somehow possesses you and drive you to create. It makes you in a sense, "Crazy".... but what a fun psychosis to have!

On a personal note, I currently reside in Cedar Falls with my husband and six kids. I split my time between the two stores so I have quite a bit of windshield time. If only I could knit on the road! I've been knitting for 20 years now (can that really be true ??) My favorite knitting project is always the next one - which I often start before I finish what's on my needles (a true addict). If you would like to contact me I'd love to hear your comments at crazygirliowa@gmail.com or you can find a Crazy Girl Yarn Shop group on Ravelry and Facebook. But best of all, stop in the shop with your project and a good cup of coffee and spend some face time with me....I'd love to meet you.

Coralville Staff

Ann
Ann cultivated her love of fiber at the foot of her Grandma Lollie, who whipped out afghans at lighting speed. Ann swears she learned to crochet in the womb, and took up knitting fifteen years ago, driving forty miles--each way--for lessons. She lives in Iowa City with her husband and two daughters, and spends her free time reading, playing online poker and watching the Cubs.

Gabrielle Harvey
Gabrielle learned to crochet from various relatives and friends when she was still in elementary school. She made miles of pink crochet chain before moving on to endless single crochet scarves and massive granny square afghans. After years of being a happy crocheter, she realized she didn’t want to be limited in yarney achievements, and picked up knitting. Gabrielle loves knitting socks, sweaters, mittens, and any other clothing useful for keeping warm during Iowa winters.

Lisa Jacobs
Lisa knitted her first garter stitch shawl when she was in fifth grade for Dress as Your Favorite Historical Figure Day at school. (She went as Laura Ingles Wilder.) In high school she fell in love with the flexibility and speed of crochet and began making free-form crochet hats for herself. A chance encounter at college with the book 45 Fun and Fanciful Hats drew her back to knitting, and made her famous in her freshman dorm for her crazy hat collection. She has been knitting and spinning ever since. In 2009, Lisa decided to make knitting her career as well as her life by establishing Fiber Tree Designs, specializing in nature based knitting patterns, custom hand-knits, and finishing services for knitted and crocheted projects. Her first pattern appeared in print in the Fall 2009 edition of KnittySpin. See what else Lisa has been up to at her blog ( www.fibertreedesigns.blogspot.com ) or contact her for an estimate on a custom knitting and finishing services at fibertreedesigns@yahoo.com.

Destiny
Destiny first learned how to knit seven years ago in her home state of Alaska to keep herself from going crazy during the harsh winters. She started with a simple cabled scarf, and has moved on to hats, blankets and more. She recently moved to Coralville with her husband and cat, and is excited to get out and explore Iowa. Aside from knitting, she enjoys playing classical guitar, watching movies and spending time with her family.

Jillian
Here comes the amazing the brilliant, talented Jillie-Bean! Currently completing her MA and MFA in photography at the University of Iowa. She fell in love with art when she was very little making terrible clay horses and that love transformed into the love of creating all different kinds of art and fiber. During her undergraduate education at Cornell College, she started her own small business knitting and selling hand-made accessories under the name Juneberry. Now she has been knitting for seven years and loving every minute of it. Contact her for an estimate on a custom knitting and finishing services at Jillian.Chapman@gmail.com.
