Hi, Leslie here..."Crazy Girl" began in September, 2003, from the simple idea of creating a space where you could buy the most exquisite yarn fiber available and when you were done, could hang out with a good cup of coffee and knit for a while. The idea has grown steadily and watching it come to fruition has been one of my life's great joys. We currently have two brick and
mortar shops (Coralville, and Cedar Falls) and an online shopping cart. I
attribute most of our success to the enthusiasm and dedication of a superb staff and the never ending creative ideas of our large customer base. I often get asked why I called it "Crazy Girl" but anyone who has caught the knitting bug understands the name. For a true addict, the fiber and color somehow possesses you and drive you to create. It makes you in a sense, "Crazy".... but what a fun psychosis to have!
On a personal note, I currently reside in Cedar Falls with my husband and six kids. I split my time between the two stores so I have quite a bit of windshield time. If only I could knit on the road! I've been knitting for 20 years now (can that really be true ??) My favorite knitting project is always the next one - which I often start before I finish what's on my needles (a true addict). If you would like to contact me I'd love to hear your comments at
crazygirliowa@gmail.com or you can find a Crazy Girl Yarn Shop group on
Ravelry and
Facebook. But best of all, stop in the shop with your project and a good cup of coffee and spend some face time with me....I'd love to meet you.

I have been knitting off and on for as long as I can remember. I am also a quilter and an avid reader, and
am trying to figure out how to do them all at the same time. My black lab is a bit jealous of
my hobbies, and thinks time would be best spent playing fetch.
I am married and have two grown daughters who live in Colorado (too far away!)
I also love walking, movies, Tai Chi and spending time with my great friends.

My Grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a young girl and soon
after that I learned to knit. Besides knitting and crocheting I also
enjoy sewing, counted cross stitch, stamping, cooking and reading. I
always have many projects or plans in the works and you will rarely
see me sitting without yarn and needles or a book in my hands.
During the school year I teach full time at Cedar Heights Elementary.
Crazy Girl Yarn Shop is my "hobby job" and you can find me in the shop
Thursday evenings and most Sundays. I also will be teaching classes
at the yarn shop.
My husband and I have 2 grown children and one spoiled Schnauzer. Our
son is a pediatric OR nurse in Kansas City and our daughter attends
Luther College in Decorah. |

I have been knitting since the age of 9 (40 years ago, yikes) when our neighbor lady at the time taught me how to knit. It was amazing to me then and even now, at what can be created with two sticks and a string! It’s magic and there is nothing like starting a new project, right? I’m married and have two teenagers, two dogs and one fish and have lived in Cedar Falls all of my life. I enjoy running, reading, drawing and stitching. Come to the store and
knit with us. If you are a beginner, we will help you and if you are a true knitting fiend (I’m in that category) the possibilities are endless with all of the patterns, fibers and gadgets that you’ll find. Knit On! |

The Crazy Girl Yarn Shops and Molly Wade Photography have teamed up to bring you beautiful images of hand-knit projects knit by Crazy Girl owner, Leslie Adrian, modeled by some very hip and trendy UNI students, and all photographed in their best light by ME, photographer, Molly Wade. I live for two things - photography and knitting - and so with this endeavor, it seems that my two favorite things now enable each other! Win-Win!! |
